Tonight Sensei Brian went over a number of gripping techniques and two throws:
Gripping:
Basically we were shown that your grip should be like a vice grip on someone's arm, wrist, hand, etc., and not in a circle. This gives you more power and control. He also explained that using this method gives you the ability to manipulate your opponent's balance by either pushing down or pulling forward.
I practiced this technique with Kent who also explained how to break the grip and get your own if someone has it on you. You basically move your arm up toward the thumb and wizard grip around so that you're the one in control. He also explained that you can use this to manipulate your opponent's arm position/balance to get them where you want them to be before attacking. We practiced grip fighting in this manner and throw entries from it.
Seio-Nage:
Standard throwing practice with an emphasis on mirroring your feet. (When you complete the step in they should be in the exact same position as you started in, but reversed like you would see in a mirror)
O-Soto-Gari:
Standard O-Soto-Gari practice with emphasis placed on keeping your hands/arms with you as you step in for the throw, giving you much more power and control.
