Today Sensei Andrew went over two techniques and a combination drill:
O-Soto-Gari:
Standard throwing practice.
Sasae-Tsuri-Komi-Ashi:
Standard throwing practice, but on the left side. A few important things to remember when performing this throw:
1. When you're stepping in for the throw, step in close to the uke so your foot is able to block their ankle.
2. Make sure you turn out enough so that you're not blocking the uke from being thrown.
3. Push up on the uke's elbow with your elbow grip to make sure they go up on their toes.
O-Soto-Gari to Sasae-Tsuri-Komi-Ashi drill:
This drill had the tori attacking the uke with o-soto-gari while the uke resisted the throw right away. Once you step in for o-soto and feel the uke's resistance quickly turn and shift your momentum in the opposite direction to throw them with sasae.
The second way we practiced this drill was to randomly resist the o-soto attack. If the uke resists, throw them with sasae - otherwise, finish the o-soto attack.
